Starting the season having lost 5 seniors from last years 14-16 squad things looked like they could be dismal, having been picked to finish 10th in the A10. But after a wild season where Clemson, Wake Forest, Davidson, Southern Illinois, Temple, St. Joe’s and Rhode Island have all experienced definitive losses to the 49ers, Charlotte has 9 wins against the RPI top 100, an accomplishment which almost no other team in the nation outside of the top 10 can claim.

But last night was the greatest 49ers basketball moment in my 4 years as an undergrad at UNC Charlotte, it beats going to the NCAA tourney, rushing the court against a ranked Cincy team we beat at the buzzer and going undefeated in February 2005.

After being down by 18 points early in the 2nd half vs UMass and 17 points at the half-time break, Charlotte rallied to take the lead… then they went down 9… and rallied again to hit a 3 with less than a minute remaining to take the lead… and then drained another 3 to win by 4!!!

All of this on top of the thrilling victory the previous evening, when we won with only .3 seconds remaining by hitting free throw attempts.

We play Temple tonight and if we can beat ’em, we are definitely an NCAA bubble team. Then we’ll play the winner of St. Joe’s/Xavier on ESPN tomorrow. Let’s go Niners!
