The music video marathon continues with one of my favorite music videos in recent years. I love it so much because it has Jenny Lewis in it and because its a great song with a lot of meaning and awesome 80s stylings.

Jenny Lewis is one of my favorite people in the music scene today. The lead singer for Rilo Kiley has a special clarity that is unique not only among the musical world today, but throughout the history of the music industry. She’s been featured on the Postal Service’s 2003 release Give Up and the Postal Service’s music video for “We Will Become Silhouettes” (I should post that one one the blog as well…) Now her most recent album, she pairs up with the Watson Twins to deliver this powerful song, “Rise Up With Fists” even though the music video doesn’t carry over the power of the song, listen to the lyrics and you’ll hear what I mean,

I listen to a lot of music that will never be featured in a music video, but I was ecstatic when Danielson’s “Did I Step On Your Trumpet” got the music video treatment. The stripped down simplicity of the music video really fits the song. The first time you hear it, it may sound a little strange to your ears. But be warned, if you listen to the song more than two times you will have it stuck in your head. It’s sooo catchy.

A new documentary called “Jesus Camp” details the (somewhat chilling) indoctrination of America’s youth as exemplified through heavily emotional religious experiences. I’m all for worship and spirituality and such, but when beliefs, especially religious beliefs, become purely emotional they can be very dangerous.
